The 6 Biggest Lies Coaches Believe About Hitting 100K Months
There are things you have to unlearn to build a coaching business that does fifty to a hundred thousand a month without eating your whole week.
I have built multiple businesses and worked with hundreds of coaches, and the same pattern shows up every time. People follow old rules that keep them stuck. Here are six of them, counted down, with the biggest one last.
SIX. FOLLOW YOUR PASSION
It sounds good. It feels good to say. It is terrible business advice.
Follow the problem, not the passion. A huge number of businesses fail because they build something nobody wants. Your passion does not pay the bills. Solving a painful, expensive problem does.
When I ran my marketing agency, my passion was brands and websites. I remember telling myself that if I could just build websites all day I would be the happiest person alive. But people were not paying for a beautiful logo. They were paying for more conversations and more people through the door. The moment I moved from what I liked making to what they were actually stuck on, the business took off.
The passion shows up later, when you watch what solving that problem does to someone's life.
FIVE. BE WELL ROUNDED
Be good at marketing, sales, operations and finance. It sounds responsible. It is a trap.
The goal is not to be average at ten things. It is to be world class at one or two and dominant there. That means the more useful exercise is naming what you are bad at, honestly, and getting it off your plate.
FOUR. HIRE SLOW, FIRE FAST
Cautious, careful, and out of date. The best people are hired within days, not months. If you drag a process out for six weeks, the person you wanted is already gone.
Hire fast, test fast, and be willing to end it fast if it is wrong. Speed is part of the standard now.
THREE. LEARN FROM THE BEST
Model the giants, everyone says. That one cost me real money.
With my agency I tried to copy the biggest agencies out there. Fancy offices, big teams, complex campaigns. I had none of it. No budget, no team, no reputation yet. Copying them would have buried me.
Copy the person one step ahead of you instead. Their last move is the one you can actually run.
TWO. JUST WORK HARDER
Hustle culture is the fastest path to burning out and looking inconsistent while you do it.
Focus is the better compass. It points at the few things that actually move the number, and it survives the months when brute force does not.
ONE. HAVE THE PLAN BEFORE YOU START
This is the one that costs the most, because it looks like diligence.
No plan survives contact with a real customer. The first version of the Accelerator was messy. A few recorded videos and a weekly group call. It was imperfect and I launched it anyway, because the reps are what teach you. Feedback came in, I worked closely with people one to one, and the predictable roadmap came out of that, not out of a document I wrote beforehand.
Do not spend six months making it beautiful. I have watched people make seven figures with no website. The overcomplicating is the delay.
